| The
Journal of Canadian Art History, a scholarly publication, was founded
in 1974 and continues to appear in print twice yearly. Its mandate is
to publish studies in all aspects of the discipline of the history of
Canadian art, architecture and the decorative arts; and Inuit and North
American Native art from the eighteenth century to the contemporary
period. Contents include individual studies on artists, architects,
art works, buildings as well as articles on art media, art theory and
criticism, patronage, institutions and education. Themes and issues
in Canadian art such as problems of iconography, connoisseurship and
attribution, and stylistic development are also published. In addition,
such features as Sources and Documents, Book Reviews and Commentaries
are regularly presented. The material is published in English or French
and the articles are accompanied by a translated résumé. The Journal of Canadian Art History is the only scholarly journal devoted entirely to the issues and events in Canadian art history. The quality of its contents is assured by the participation of an Advisory Board of prominent art historians from across Canada. Back issues of The Journal of Canadian Art History are available in hard copy and on microfiche. The contents of The Journal/Annales are listed in fifteen scholarly indices.
