The simple search mode allows you to search the database using keywords. Type one or several keywords into the allotted search box and click on "submit". A list of relevant documents will appear. Each of these documents will contain the keyword(s) you have selected. You can refine your search by adding more keywords to the search terms you have already entered. For example, if you type the words "women artists", a long list of documents containing the words "women" and "artists" will appear. If you wish to refine this search, you may add another word, such as "Montreal". Your new search will produce only the documents that contain the three words you have entered. |

The advanced search mode is divided into two different search pages. These give you the opportunity to make searches either within the published material or within the archival material. The advanced search mode also operates through keywords, but allows you to refine your search by entering words in specific bibliographical sections. With the published material option, you may choose to type keywords in the "title" section. After clicking on "search", a list of documents will appear whose titles contain the keywords you have entered. You can also refine your search by entering keywords in additional sections. For example, if you type the words "Emily Carr" in the "title" section, a list of documents whose titles contain the words "Emily" and "Carr" will appear. If you add the word "1945" in the "publication date" section, your list will be reduced to documents whose titles contain the words "Emily" and "Carr" and were published in 1945. The principle is the same with the archival material option. For example, if you type the words "Paul-Émile Borduas" in the "author" section and the words "Montreal Museum of Fine Arts" in the "location" section, a list of documents written by Paul-Émile Borduas and located in the archives of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will appear. |

Le mode de recherche rapide vous permet de faire une recherche à l'aide de mots-clés. Entrez un ou plusieurs mot(s)-clé(s) dans la boîte de recherche et cliquez sur « submit ». Une liste de documents pertinents apparaîtra. Chacun de ces documents contiendra le ou les mot(s)-clé(s) que vous aurez entrés. Vous pouvez limiter votre recherche en ajoutant d'autres mots-clés aux termes de recherche que vous avez déjà soumis. Par exemple, si vous entrez les mots « women artists », une longue liste de documents qui contiennent les mots « women » et « artists » apparaîtra. Si vous désirez limiter cette recherche vous pouvez ajouter un autre mot, comme « Montréal ». Votre nouvelle liste sera uniquement composée de documents qui contiennent les trois mots que vous aurez entrés. |

Le mode de recherche avancée est divisé en deux pages de recherche différentes. Celles-ci vous permettent de faire une recherche soit parmi le matériel publié, soit parmi les documents d'archives. Le mode de recherche avancée fonctionne également à l'aide de mots-clés, mais vous permet de limiter votre recherche en entrant des mots-clés dans des sections bibliographiques spécifiques. Avec la page de recherche du matériel publié, vous pouvez entrer des mots-clés dans la section « title ». Après avoir cliqué sur « search », une liste de documents dont les titres contiennent les mots-clés que vous aurez entrés apparaîtra. Vous pouvez aussi limiter votre recherche en ajoutant des mots-clés dans les autres sections. Par exemple, si vous entrez les mots « Emily Carr » dans la section « title », une liste de documents dont les titres contiennent les mots « Emily » et « Carr » apparaîtra. Si vous ajoutez « 1945 » dans la section « publication date », votre liste sera réduite aux documents dont les titres contiennent les mots « Emily » et « Carr » et qui ont été publiés en 1945. La page de recherche des documents d'archives fonctionne selon le même principe.
