Abstract: After an introduction outlining sculpture in Canada prior to the 20th century, the author devotes a separate section to each of six women sculptors: Frances Norma Loring, Florence Wyle, Jacobine Jones, Elizabeth Wyn Wood, Sybil Kennedy, and Sylvia Daoust. These artists are the six most important Canadian women sculptors, and have collectively given Canada an artistic identity. For each artist, Hambleton includes biographical notes, references to collections of her work, and an appreciation.
