Funding & awards

All graduate students admitted to the MA or PhD program are considered for funding and awards at the point of admission. Students are also encouraged to apply for various external scholarship (such as FRQSC and SSHRC) and they receive faculty support and mentoring during the application process

Awards, scholarships and grants

Students are automatically considered for a range of awards upon submission of their application for admission. No further applications are necessary.

A call for applications is circulated to current students in the winter term for the following awards:

  • Art History Faculty And Staff Adopt-A-Student Award (not offered annually)
  • Frances and David Rubin Award (travel award)
  • Morrie and Diane Cohen Graduate Scholarship in Art History 
  • Renata Hornstein Graduate Fellowship in Art History 

Conference travel

Research travel

  • Quebec Mobility Bursary - Study outside of Quebec for 1 or 2 semesters, including independent study abroad, unpaid internships, and research projects completed for credit
  • MITACS - provides support for graduate students, with a focus on internships and research travel funding.

Study exchange

  • Quebec Mobility Bursary - Study outside of Quebec for 1 or 2 semesters, including independent study abroad, unpaid internships, and research projects completed for credit
  • Graduate Student Mobility Award - Travel for study, research, or field work for 4 to 16 weeks
  • John O'Brian Travel Exchange Award with University of British Columbia - The Award is intended to support graduate students who engage in an Art History MA student exchange between Concordia University and University of British Columbia (UBC). A call will be circulated in the Fall.

Employment Opportunities

Award-holders are advised to check the terms of their award to determine the number of hours they are permitted to work. TRAC contracts must not total more than 20 hours per week.

Research Assistantships

Many faculty members employ research assistants through their grants. Interested students should enquire directly with their supervisors or other faculty members.

Teaching Assistantships

Incoming students are automatically considered for teaching assistantships at the time of admission. A few TAships may be available to returning students; to express interest, please email the Graduate Program Director.

Teaching

Doctoral students will typically be considered for teaching positions after their thesis proposals and comprehensive examinations are finished. The recommendation of your supervisor and the Graduate Seminar in University Teaching, offered through GradProSkills, are prerequisites.

Work-Study Program

The Work-study program helps fund part-time jobs on campus for students who are in financial need.
