The objective of the CMHC External Research Program (ERP)
is to encourage and enable researchers to put forward and carry out relevant, innovative,
and high quality housing research projects which address issues affecting Canadian
housing. The grant (maximum $20,000) is open to independent researchers and those employed
in Canadian universities. Full-time students are not eligible to apply, but can be hired

Canadian Heritage Arts Apprenticeship Grant

To help provide opportunities to artists and arts
administrators of diverse ethnocultural and Aboriginal backgrounds to pursue training and
professional development in an employment context and to assist them in gaining access to
Canada's arts and cultural industries. The $15,000 amount (over 10 months) covers 66% of
the costs to the trainer of the salary. The trainer must contribute the remaining 34% of
the salary or find a sponsor for this amount. Contact the Program Officer of the Arts

Several awards (to $8,000) are offered through the
Institute intended to aid students to complete their thesis on Ukrainian or
Ukrainian-Canadian topics in fields such as education, history, humanities, library
sciences, and women's studies. For non-Canadian applicants preference will be given to
those enrolled at the University of Alberta. Deadline May 1.
A research and training fellowship in Ukrainian Studies
($18,500 for one term) is also available, tenable at any university with research
facilities at which the fellow's academic Ukrainian studies specialty may be pursued and
the fellow enabled to teach a course related to the specialty. Institutions and
departments who wish to explore the possibility of hosting a fellow also are encouraged to
request information. Applicants must hold a doctorate, or have equivalent professional
achievement, in Ukrainian studies. Deadline March 1.

people of the United States, although up to 7.4 percent of the funds may be used to
benefit the people of some countries that are or have been members of the British overseas
Commonwealth. Since they give out over $50 million a year, that means almost $4 million is

assist in taking advance studies (beyond the undergraduate degree) or special and
intensive professional upgrading (up to one year). Applicants must be have been

provide appropriate support materials in the form of audio- and video-tapes, references,

several awards for the study of costume history, such as the Stella Blum Research
Grant (maximum $3,000) to CSA member to support a university research project
focusing on any aspect of North American costume. The Millia Davenport Publication
Award ($500) recognizes published books or exhibition catalogues. The Society
also offers travel awards for student speakers to their annual conference, and

Applicants must apply through the institution, which may only recommend up to two
applications. Awards valued from $700 to $2,000 for one year. The criteria is a mix of
academic merit, personal motivation, and external activities including employment and
extracurricular activities. Scholarships are open to full or part time students. Both
undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. All scholarships are made to the

professionals to support innovative original research and creative design focusing on
advancing the practice of preservation of historic buildings and architectural heritage in
the US. Applicants are required to submit three copies of the following: a brief
description of the project and work product, not to exceed three pages; a schedule of work
and a budget showing how the grant money will be applied; a CV, including professional and
academic background and past and present grants received; and two letters of support for
the project. Open to midcareer professionals with established backgrounds in historic

Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican

The Foundation supports scholarly works which advance the
understanding of ancient Mesoamerican cultures and the indigenous cultures in modern
Mesoamerica (Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador) and supports projects
in the disciplines of archaeology, art history, etc. The Foundation encourages
interdisciplinary projects, especially those which combine disciplines in novel and
potentially productive ways.
General Research Grants ($500) are
provided to the most qualified scholars regardless of degree level, although FAMSI favors
degree candidates, recent graduates and professionals whose projects have not had

Special Project Grants are designed to

The Grant Program funds a diverse range of projects that
promote research in the history of art and related fields, advancement of the
understanding of art, and conservation of cultural heritage. Grants may fund conceptual
projects that take intellectual risks, or they may support more basic resources and

The Foundation offers fellowships to further the
development of scholars and artists by assisting them to engage in research in any field
of knowledge and creation in any of the arts. Two annual competitions: one for permanent
citizens of the US and Canada, and one for permanent residents of Latin America and the

International Federation of University Women

IFUW fellowships and grants are open only to women
graduates who are members of the International Federation. The awards are intended to help
finance short graduate and post-graduate study, research and training projects and to

history, or advanced training or scientific investigation in art conservation, and
for the development of scholarly resources for art historical research and art
conservation, for projects in which art historians and conservators can work together, for
fieldwork on sites of major importance for the history of western art and architecture.
Funding is directed to the history and preservation of western art from Antiquity to the
early 19th century. Applicants should write for the brochure which contains details
regarding application due dates and guidelines. Grants range from $10,000 to $15,000 for

Regional Winner and an additional $5,000 to the National Winner. $10,000 will be granted
to the College or University of the National Winner. Award given for one year at any
recognized Canadian University. Candidate must be currently enrolled as full-time
undergraduate or graduate student. The candidate must submit a 2,500 word proposal
type-written, in either official language, responding to the question: "If you were
the Prime Minister of Canada, what would you do to improve living standards and unite the

Kenneth MacLean Glazier Scholarship in

One scholarship ($400) per year is awarded to a student
who intends to develop Canadian design studies in their master's degree utilizing the
material in the Canadian Architectural Archives of the University of Calgary Library.
Candidates must submit an application with an outline of their study proposal stating
those portions of the project related to Canadian design studies. Open to Canadian
citizens who have completed at least one full year of full-time studies in the Faculty of

Institutional Grants for Research, Publication,
and Education: The Foundation's purpose is to help assure a creative Jewish
future by fostering the preservation and transmission of Jewish culture throughout the
world, particularly through the encouragement of Jewish scholarship, education and
research, and the training of young Jews for professional Jewish service in
culturally-needy communities. Grants are provided to universities or institutions of
research and publication for team projects conducted in various Jewish fields. Contact the

Scholarships for Research in Jewish Studies:
Open to any graduate student specializing in a Jewish field so is officially enrolled or
registered in a doctoral program at a recognized university. Grants (approx. $1,000) may
be renewed up to 4 years and varies in accordance with the cost of living in the country

university. The Ontario-Quebec Exchange Fellowship Programme is an exchange program that
allows students from Ontario to pursue full-time graduate studies at the master's or
doctoral level at a university in Quebec. This program offers outstanding students from
Ontario the opportunity to live in Quebec and to work in their particular field of study
in one of Canada's official languages. Candidates must plan to register as a full-time
student in the first year of a programme leading to a master's or doctoral degree. If you

interest in recently deceased American painters, sculptors, and photographers whose work

Vernacular Architecture Research

The Center for Field Research (CFR) is a private,
nonprofit organization established in 1973 to promote significant scholarship and to
improve communication between scholars and the public. Proposals are accepted from
advanced scholars of any nationality, covering any geographic region. Architects,
landscape architects, conservators, historians, anthropologists, planners, design
specialists and others are eligible to apply, as individuals or as teams, to study
sustainable design found in vernacular architecture in any country around the world.
Architectural firms and professional societies may also participate. Priority will be
given to field-based research projects concerning the documentation of vernacular
architecture, the testing or implementation of designs based on vernacular sources, and to
projects in general which seek to improve public understanding and support of the concept
of sustainability in architectural design. Interdisciplinary projects designed for

vernacular or historic architecture; Projects examining the inter-relationship between the

period of four months to one year. Scholars with Research projects in traditional

Up to 800 summer jobs for young Canadians will be created
in heritage institutions each year. As part of the federal government's Youth Employment
Strategy, the Department of Canadian Heritage is making financial assistance available to
non-profit museums, archives, libraries, and related cultural and heritage organizations
to create summer jobs for young Canadians. The Department of Canadian Heritage has
approved the following five partners for administering the heritage component of the
program: the Canadian Museums Association, the Canadian Library Association, l'Association
pour l'avancement des sciences et des techniques de la documentation, the Canadian Council
of Archives, and the Heritage Canada Foundation. Application forms and all program
