ABSTRACT
The Montreal Metro: Integration of Art and
Architecture
Graham Cantieni
1987
In a lecture in 1951, A.C. Sewter proposed three
relationships by which to consider the integration of painting and architecture of the
past. This paper shows that these relationships -- art subordinated to architecture, art
and architecture in equilibrium and art dominating architecture -- still provide a valid
framework by which to consider the integration of art and architecture in typical stations
of Montreals subway system.
